If you have bought a plug by post and are not sure what to do with it, read on.
The plug should still be moist, if it is very dry, immerse it in water for a minute. You can plant the plug straight in the garden but as it is a small plant you it’s better to pot it into a 9 cm pot (three and a half inch) or slightly bigger, with a general purpose compost.
We use Melcourt’s Sylvagrow with added loam and have good results. Don’t overfirm the compost! Give a good watering from above or below and if it’s a cold time of year put it in a sheltered but bright place outside. The nutrient in compost doesn’t last long so you need to think about feeding after one month.
